Most Common Problems With Gas Furnaces

Conventional gas furnaces are some of the most popular heating units in the U.S. The most energy-saving models on the market today can have an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency rating of up to 98.5%, which reduces energy waste to only 1.5%.

A gas furnace has many upsides, but experts in the construction of HVAC systems agree that it’s not immune to problems. Below are the issues you’ll be most likely to encounter with a gas-fired furnace.

It Doesn’t Run

Lack of power is not necessarily the culprit when a gas furnace won’t operate. If there are no tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses, the heating unit may not be getting gas because the valve is closed. Motor overload is another likely suspect, which can be fixed with a reset.

It Doesn’t Blow Enough Warm Air

Normally, this happens when something in the system is so dirty that it restricts the flow of air. This is why you should clean or change air filters regularly, especially if you use your furnace every day or have pets in the house.

Before checking the filter, look to make sure that the thermostat isn’t set too low. If the room starts to feel comfortable after raising the temperature by five degrees, the problem is solved.

It Short Cycles

Short cycling is when your furnace starts and then stops before reaching the temperature level asked of it by the thermostat. If your heating unit doesn’t return to its normal operation after cleaning the air filter and installing fresh batteries in your thermostat, the problem is likely more complicated than it seemed at first.

It’s Loud

Furnaces are not the quietest of appliances, but it if it begins to make strange noises it probably has a broken component.
